COMPASS

What is COMPASS?

(Community of Mentors Providing Access to Skills for Success)

This is a voluntary mentoring program for members of the Ole Miss community who wish to grow professionally and personally through mentor/mentee relationships. Mentors will include faculty, staff and students, and mentees will include staff members.

The goals of the program are to:

  • Promote the personal and professional growth of individual staff members
  • Enhance mutual respect and build community among staff members
  • Increase staff motivation and morale under the guiding principle that helping others helps us
  • Increase staff job satisfaction and personal fulfillment
  • Increase staff retention

Statement of Purpose

The purpose of the Community of Mentors Providing Access to Skills for Success (COMPASS: Moving in the Right Direction) is to support the values outlined in the university’s creed and mission by implementing a voluntary mentoring program to benefit university staff.

What do we do? Provide resources related to:

  • Life Skills
  • Lafayette/Oxford/University Community
  • Personal Development
  • Professional Development

 Would you like to become a mentor to a fellow staff member?

If so, sign up to become a COMPASS mentor. Here are the steps to follow to be assigned a mentor:

  • Must be a full-time or permanent part-time staff member
  • Obtain supervisor’s approval to participate in program
  • Complete a MENTOR APPLICATION in pdf from here to print out
  • Commit to one semester of working with a mentee
  • Attend mandatory on-campus mentoring workshop presented by Human Resources Department
  • Agree to meet in person with mentee at least monthly during the semester
  • Agree to communicate with mentor by phone or email at least every other week during the semester

Do you need assistance with one or more of the areas listed above?

If so, sign up to become a COMPASS mentee. Here are the steps to follow to be assigned a mentee:

  • Commit to one semester of working with your mentor
  • Agree to meet in person with mentor at least monthly during the semester
