Emma ScottEmma Scott

International Student Advisor
International Student & Scholar Services

Get to Know More About Emma!

How long have you worked at Ole Miss? A little over a year now! I started this position in August 2022.

What is your hometown? Right here in Oxford, Mississippi.

Talk about your favorite Ole Miss memory? I graduated from the University, and I’d have to say my graduation day is my favorite memory. It was extra special because my mom went back to school to finish her degree, and she finished at the same time I did, so we graduated together!

What do you enjoy most about your position or the department in which you work? I’m grateful that I’m constantly surrounded by people I can learn from. My colleagues are knowledgeable about so many topics—gardening, birds, and dancing, to name a few. My international students are always sharing stories and pictures from their home countries and cultures with me. I love that every day I feel like I’ve learned something new.

What do you like to do when you are not at work? I enjoy spending time with my loved ones! I feel so fulfilled when I’m with them, even if it’s just watching a movie with my family or sharing a meal with friends.

What is one thing on your bucket list? I’ve always wanted to go on a road trip across the country.

What is your favorite movie? I’m a big fan of Hayao Miyazaki, and I’d say my favorite of his films would be Princess Mononoke.

What is your favorite Ole Miss tradition? I enjoy tailgating, especially now that I’m working in the Office of Global Engagement. We try to have a tent for the first home game, and it’s always fun talking with our new international students and scholars when they experience tailgating culture for the first time.

What is a fun fact about you? I can recite the Pledge of Allegiance in Latin.

If you could have lunch with anyone alive or dead/fictional or real, who would it be and why? My grandmother passed away when I was young, but I’ve heard such warm and inspiring stories about her life. I’d love the opportunity to hear those stories and others directly from her.

What are three words you would use to describe yourself? These days, I’d say curious, reflective, and diligent.

If you could visit one time or place in world history (past, present, or future), what would it be? I’d like to visit 100 years in the future. Technology is changing so rapidly that I don’t know what to expect in the next 10 years, let alone 100.

If I could be an animal for a day I would be _____ . A campus squirrel after a tailgating event in the Grove.
